Deaf Active

Supporting, promoting and enhancing the lives of children and young people.

Welcome to Deaf Active

We are a not-for-profit, tirelessly dedicated to promoting inclusive youth and play services for D/deaf children and young people, CODA’s (Children Of Deaf Adults), Hard of Hearing children and their hearing family members and friends.

We are a vibrant young charity working to support, promote and enhance the lives of D/deaf children and young people throughout the boroughs of Merseyside. Examples of what we offer include:

Play & Youth Services

Our Play & Youth Services provide fun, inclusive opportunities for Deaf and hearing children and young people to learn, grow, and make lasting friendships. From our After School Club and activity sessions to Discovery Camp, Football Camp, and youth programmes, we create safe spaces where everyone can thrive.

Deaf Active Academy

The Deaf Active Academy delivers British Sign Language (BSL) and Deaf Awareness training to nurseries, schools, businesses, and organisations. We also offer accredited Level 1 BSL courses, helping to build confidence, improve communication, and create more inclusive communities.

Employability & Training

We support Deaf young people to develop the skills, qualifications, and confidence they need to achieve their goals. Through programmes such as Stepping Stones and our volunteering opportunities, we help participants prepare for employment, further education, and independent living.

Health & Wellbeing

We promote positive physical and mental wellbeing through accessible fitness programmes and community projects designed to support Deaf people and the wider community. From Active Fitness sessions to wellbeing initiatives such as Deafeminine and Aspire Futures, we empower people to lead healthier, more connected lives.

What is Deaf Active?

Did you know that approximately 18 million people in the UK are deaf, have hearing loss, or experience tinnitus? That is roughly 1 in 3 of the adult population.

Deaf Active was established in 2004 as a community group dedicated to supporting the d/Deaf community in Merseyside.Following our growth and impact, we achieved registered charity status in 2009. We are committed to empowering Deaf and hearing children, young people, and adults through inclusive play, BSL training, and wellbeing services.
